Hello there!!
I'm back...
I'm using a dinasaur of a PC after my laptop decided to die.
It's not the only reason I've been away and I'd like to thank all the kind emails I've recieved from so many blogging friends.
So, look at these photos..
they are of the small village of Plaka near Elounda.
It's become part of the set for the film '
The Island' based on the book of the same name written by Victoria Hislop. You can see the island,
Spinalonga, behind the fake wall in the above photo.
The story is fictional but based on the last years of the occupation of Spinalonga by lepers.
It's was amazing to see how authentic the set was!

Glad to see you posting again. I read about the book. Hope Santa gets you a new laptop. Santaaaa, I need one as well.
i found the book a bit too melodramatic and soppy, but i'm sure the film will be better - being set in crete is more than enough!
I've always found sets fascinating- sometimes more real than real life.
I hope that you and yours are doing well and your only inconvenience is working with an old laptop. It doesn't take us long to get used to the newest and fastest.

I have to admit to the henious crime of never reading the book, however I was told that it was a lovely read....
Film sets sound very exciting though!

I read the book while in Corfu two years ago - I like to read things about Greece when I am there. I agree with MK about the melodrama but I was interested, having gazed out across to Spinalonga. I was also intrigued to know what kind of a writer was also the wife of Ian Hislop.

I really enjoyed 'The Island' despite the melodramatic bits but didn't know they were doing a film about it ....I'll have to go see it when it comes out. Are you going to try to be an extra?!

Will be interesting to see the illusion of the house after seeing it in pieces on the sets!
