I haven't seen my friend Sandy for a while, the season has started early for her and she's already had guests in her beautiful apartments. So it was great when she popped by a couple of days ago with 2 completed quilts.....
They are so lovely!! The first one was made from her friend's father's shirts. He died and so Sandy has made this memory quilt for her. She's called it Heart Strings.
The pink one was made from recycled fabrics bought from the bazaars. That one is called Lasithi Windmills. She likes to give everything names.....don't ask what mine is!!
This is a close up of the middle of the squares of the first quilt so you can see the hearts and how she has used an embroidery stitch called the Cretan Stitch to applique them on.
Makes my little crocheted bag look rather insignificant...
I've made it as a test piece, think I might make it a bit bigger next time. This one is handy for keeping my ongoing crochet project in. This photo was rather rushed so you can't see the lovely little button in the middle of the flower.
I met Chris today for a walk, I'll make some arrangements with her so I can go and take photos of her finished projects very soon.
Keep forgetting to tell you, I've joined "Today's Title Is" It's a photograghic blog started by Helen of Heb Art, go have a look sometime, there's some lovely images to be seen......
I'm still ploughing through designing and making wedding invitations, nearly finished. I'll be back to completing my quilts then, I have a cunning plan.....

I absolutely love the name Heart Strings in memory of your friend's dad. What a beautiful way to remember him by.

Such an amazing idea - to make a quilt out of her father's shirts. The pink windmill one is lovely too.
I love the quilts and the little bag is very cute!
I can well imagine the joy the person receiving the quilt made from her father's shirts. What a gift!
Your bag is delightful and I can see the button when I enlarge the photo. fun.
How lovely the quilts are. I have heard of making quilts from clothes to keep as a memory. My daughter's friend had one made from her t-shirts...school shirts, sport shirts...I am thinking of doing this for my daughter too.
The crochet bag is really, really lovely!
Hi Jude, Sandy's quilts are just lovely. I'm sure her friend will love the heart string quilt.
Your little bag is so cute too, like your flower.
both delightful.
The quilts are lovely. I particularly like the Log Cabin one, and how nice that she re used shirts, a real memory piece.
All are lovely. What a joy that one quilt made in memory will bring her Friend.
Those quilts are wonderful, and such a great idea to do a memory quilt of old shirts!
Quilts are gorgeous - and what a lovely idea for the memory quilt. Your bg is very pretty - clever you!
Have meant to ask - what does Cariad mean?
They do look lovely and the Heart Strings one is quite wonderful! THank you so much for wishing me luck I can't beleive it is happening tomorrow!
the quilts are beautiful, and what a wonderful way to remember your dad.
the square patchwork is reminiscent of one of my cretan aunties' patchwork - i have something that looks very similar and it's over 50 years old - rather taggedy, but i cant bear to part with it.
(golden syrup isnt avialable in hania, but i have heard that you can get it at a shop that sells british goods for ex-pats, out in maleme, ot the west of the island - i dont know if it is still operating - can't do without it when i make gingernuts)
Love the quilts and crochet - and must check out that heart with cretan stitch as I had already planned to use old fabric left over for dressmaking for heart motifs in my farmhouse treasure book. Cretan stitch could well be the answer for fixing them onto the background. Thanks for sharing these lovely things.
Those quilts are lovely but my mouth watered at your little bag. By the way you can't moan about not being able to grow rhubarb when you can get basil and tomatoes to grow like you can!!! x
What a nice bag you have made- Like it!!
Your photos are fantasic!!
Clever, very clever. Loved the idea of the shirts. As I type, Mr Grigg has stripped to his boxers and is mending a hole in his shorts.

This is such a creative way to recycle clothes. Do you have any instructions how to make these? All three patterns are very beautiful.
Those quilts are fabulous. I love 'Heart strings'. I have felted a wall hanging (will blog about it soon) that had hearts on it called 'Heart felt'. Such a lovely shape to use. I love that she used his shirts.
Your bag is fab. I think you should put that pattern on your blog!
