Flower Pounding, Crochet Squares catch-up.

I'm going to do more of this... what a gorgeous effect. Above is a 'mum' and below is a convulvulus, it's such a water colour painted effect. What shall I do with them though and does anybody know, are they permanent or will they fade and disappear?

And, for Charlie, sorry it's late. I'm starting to block my squares now and what a difference it makes. I pinned then down on a towel on the ironing board outside in the sunshine. Then sprayed them with water. Left them for a couple of hours to dry and hey presto! they are so, so, well, straight and neat, not like the wrinkly things I crocheted....... see, the ones on the left are done and the one on the right is waiting for it's beauty treatment.

The sun is out and the temperature is rising, I spent a couple of hours admiring the view and noseying at the neighbours. Do you think they can see me behind the baby banana plant?

A good thing about the clocks moving forward.. our church clock chimes the right time now, only does that 6 months of the year because nobody moves the hands.....

Geoff's working today getting the jeeps ready for the safaris he is hopefully going to be doing within the next few months.. That is if there are any tourists..... come on over, it's lovely here!!

Sorry, can't help on how to preserve your work but can only stand back and admire. I'm also very envious at your gorgeous view, brings back happy memories of Greek holidays.

I love your "mum". I saw this technique on Simply Quilts a few years back. You can find instructions on www.HGTV.com

How did you do your flowers? They are lovely. Quilt squares are nice, my mom made the original grannie square afghan in black. You have an amazing view.....I'm green!

Hi there
Sorry I've been away from blog reading for a bit. I've just caught up now. I love the flower pounding and as I asked Gina..can you do it with small animals?
I don't know anything about it but it looks lovely, and you certainly have the flowers there to practice with. I enjoyed your posts about London but I can't work out who everyone is. It doesn't matter though..they all look happy.

What lovely flower images - must try that.
I sighed when I looked at the photo of your terrace - the sun, the sky, the colours. Over here it's just white snow.
Safaris?? Where exactly are you? We're coming to Greece in September, but I'll have to look again at where we'll be. I have a feeling that it'll just be the big places as we'll be on a cruise ship. I'll check and get back to you.

Nice view. Is that from your place? I'm sure I can see eagles in the distance and I can hear Hoopoes...

What a breathtaking view! Nah, I doubt anyone can see you through the vegetation! Your quilt squares are so pretty. I never knew that about spraying them in the sun to size them. Very clever. And I'm going to have to look up "flower pounding". I've never heard of it.

Hi Jude,

Popped by to say I loved the pictures from your London trip, it looked like you had a good time, and I'm sure your daughter is going to be beautiful!(& a nurse too!...)

I do not know how you coped without your kitchen - I am going do-lally & its only day 3 here!

Haven't the parcel - will send Friday - just been really too busy at work to skip off early to the post office!

What is flower pounding? If you can do it to animals, is it legal to do to cheeky 8 year olds??

Can you fix with something like waterproofing spray??

Hope you are feeling better.

Gosh I am twittering! Must be the dust...

Love Lydia xx

What is flower pounding? Did you press the flowers between two pieces of cloth? Is it cheese cloth?
It looks wonderfully like water colors yes. Did you add paint or just the natural colors from the flowers themselves? Tell all please.

love the banana plant too.

I saw that flower pounding on someone else's blog but can't remember where. It's very effective. Who you been noseying on?

It's like a flower power version of the Turin Shroud.
You're very clever...!

Your Summer garden blocks are looking lovely and I am sooooooooo jealous of your terrace and view! How I love greece, been too long since I was there :o(
Wish I could air my Grannies in the sun, tis still boring ol radiator treatment here, not warm enough yet by a long way.
Ah well, I can dream.........

Great granny square project, Jude! It would be fun to make boxy shaped granny square pillows.

Love the sun filled slice of Greece that you share. <3

How did you get that water coloury effect then?

Hey Jude, God sorry, that's so corny and you must be sick of people saying/writing it over your lifetime!!

Anyway, just popped by to say thanks for popping by at mine and for your encouraging comments. Have been trying to catch up with your news here and your life but will have to keep coming back to put all the pieces together! France, Greece, Cornwall, Saudi, Wales - my head is spinning with all the geographic connections in your family! Glad you had a great trip home (and rest assured I am NEVER ready and packed and sorted before going away - it's always absolute chaos and pandemonium up until the last minute!) and good luck with all the preparations over the coming months.

Meanwhile, I am very envious of the lovely lifestyle you and Geoff seem to have created. I've been trying to persuade my husband for nearly two decades how differently we could live our lives...I think it will have to wait till retirement now! Sigh.
