Valentine Hearts

Thought I'd add some hearts to the already huge amount that are out in blogland today.
We're staying in and my soulmate is cooking. I've seen strawberries, chocolate and a rather nice bottle of red wine. The wood stove is stoked and we have a pile of logs by the door in case we need more. We have candles lit so the scene is set for a snuggly evening.
I know everyone thinks we have wall to wall sunshine here. It might seem it sometimes but we do have some rain and grey skies. We went to Malia this afternoon, in the summer this beach is covered with bodies, you can't see the sand!! Sadly, Malia is a honeypot in the summer for young people who, on the whole drink far too much and wear far too little. There's always stories of fights, stabbings, robberies, drugs, you name it!! A friend of mine was driving through the main town at lunch time last summer and saw 2 girls walking towards her completely naked.
Malia has a history going back to Minoan time with the Palace of Malia being an important site. The area is and always has been very important agriculturally, growingpotatoes and the famous Malia bananas. The mass tourism developed in the mid 60s.

Hi thanks for the Hedgehog translation.

I have enjoyed a few meals in Malia old town before things changed..It is a shame that the locals have to put up with the bad behaviour.

Enjoy your meal.

Sounds interesting...but too bad crowds of people! You seem to have a lovely open natural space nearby...and you know how to enjoy it, Ms Jude.
I hope you and Mr. Soulmate have a lovely day. <3

I'll be checking the map! And Minoan history .... pics fantastic; climate shift means we (in UK) experience a more 'mediterranean' climate now. Then we get caught out and catapulted back into an old normality.

Your meal sounds so good (I won't buy imported strawberries in winter); I am just about to dish up shredded chicken with leeks in a creme fraiche sauce, with mashed potato and broccoli. Not that romantic but I will add the candles - to the table, not the sauce!

Thank you. Hope your dinner with your sweetie was lovely. Those photos, esp the ocean shot, are amazing. Just love the colors and that dark line between sea and sky.

By now your dinner is just a memory - and I hope it is a delicious memory. Did it really rain?....or were you just trying to make the rest of us feel better?

It's interesting what you say about the behaviour of the tourists. I used to work on a project with Cretan schools and all the teachers I met said they no longer take their children to the beach, because of the behaviour of tourists in the high season.

aren't tourists pigs? why do they leave their own countries and go wild in other people's homes? makes me mad. happy Val day to you with hugs.

ohhhhhh, LOVE that beach photo-big surprise coming from me. LOL! Reminds me of watching rain/stormy clouds across the bay here and making a huge pot of homemade soup. Love it!!! Thanks so much for posting, sorry I'm a day late. xoxo seashell :)

Such a dramatic sky Jude. I prefer the beach that way rather than covered in sunbathers. Hope you and Mr Soul had a great Valentine.

Well, in spite of all that bad rap, it is a very lovely place. I, personally, love cloudy weather and black skies. Still, it sounds like a wonderful place to vacation. Thanks for the pictures. I really enjoy them.

Fantastic sea/sky shot, would make a good subject for watercolour painting. Flowers are few and far between here at the moment. We spent the evening of the 14th with about eighty others dancing the night away in the local bar.

Those are gorgeous photos you took. I like that little building too in a previous post.
